History
“ A nation that forgets its past has no future.” – Winston Churchill
At New Brighton Primary School we believe in providing children with a thorough understanding of the world they live in and a sense of identity and heritage. Allowing pupils to learn about how British, local and world History has influenced the present, provides skills that will prepare them for adult life. Within our History curriculum, children develop their curiosity of the past by examining sources through child led enquiry and independent research.
Being a Historian at New Brighton Primary School means:
- Developing curiosity
- Learning about important events in the past
- Understanding local History
- Being investigative
- Having a good chronological understanding
- Developing our SMSC understanding
History is taught through topics in the Autumn and Summer term. Every child studies two history topics per year. We aim to make our investigation of history as hands on as possible, utilising local trips and resources as best we can. A progression of history skills, designed for our children, is covered through these lessons and evidence is collated in their topic books.
We have a wide selection of books and artefacts that children can use to inspire their learning. Teachers enjoy using these resources and they are often used across the curriculum to make links between subjects.
