Attendance
Protecting every child's right to an education
Attendance at New Brighton Primary School
At New Brighton Primary School, attendance is central to our mission to nurture the whole child. As an accredited Inclusive Attendance School, we believe children attend best when they feel valued, included and that they truly belong.
Guided by our motto, “Giving our Best, Achieving Success,” we see attendance as more than being present—it is the gateway to learning, wellbeing and opportunity. Through strong relationships, consistency and care, we create a school where children feel safe, proud and motivated to come every day.
Our Attendance Vision
We are committed to protecting every child’s right to an education. Our vision is that every child:
Feels welcomed, respected and cared for every day
Knows they belong and are an important part of our school community
Has consistent access to high-quality learning and opportunity
Understands the importance of regular attendance and punctuality
Receives timely, compassionate support when challenges arise
Benefits from a whole-school approach where attendance is everyone’s responsibility
No child is ever overlooked, and barriers to attendance are addressed early and supportively.
Our Values and the School Promise
Our attendance culture is rooted in the School Promise, which shapes how we behave, learn and support one another:
Respect Everyone
Be Kind in Actions and Words
Listen Carefully
Support Others
Be Responsible
These shared values help create a calm, welcoming environment where children feel emotionally safe, confident and ready to attend.
How We Support Attendance
Inclusive Attendance Model: Evidence-informed practice and ongoing staff training
Three-Tier Support Approach:
Tier 1: Whole-school strategies that build belonging
Tier 2: Early support for emerging attendance concerns
Tier 3: Bespoke, multi-agency support for more complex needs
Positive Recognition: Daily rewards and regular celebrations that build motivation and pride
Strong Partnerships: Close working with families to understand barriers and co-create solutions
Working in Partnership with Parents
We believe strong attendance is built through trust, communication and shared responsibility.
Parents and carers can expect us to:
Provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive school environment
Deliver high-quality teaching and pastoral support
Communicate openly and early about attendance, wellbeing and learning
Listen carefully and work with families to overcome barriers
Offer timely support and signposting when concerns arise
We ask parents and carers to:
Ensure their child attends school regularly and on time
Inform the school promptly of any absence
Engage with school staff if attendance becomes a concern
Work in partnership with us to support their child’s education
Together, we protect every child’s right to an education and give them the best chance to thrive.
